Whoopi Goldberg Defends Mel Gibson

It’s no secret that he’s horribly damaged his public image, but Mel Gibson still has at least one friend in showbiz- Whoopi Goldberg.

And on yesterday’s episode of “The View,” the “Eddie” actress stated that her troubled pal is definitely not the racist he’s being portrayed as.

She explained, "I know Mel, and I know he's not a racist. I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he's being a bonehead, but I can't sit and say that he's a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids."

Whoopi added, "I don't like what he's done. Make no mistake. Drunks say stupid stuff to people all the time ... because they're drunk, they're out of control, they're not thinking, they're idiotic."
