The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and one Ryan Lochte fan put that phrase to the test in asking her swimming hero to be her prom date.
Danielle Jennette, a senior in high school from Suffolk, Virginia launched her campaign with the Twitter account @ryanlochteprom. In a bid to win his heart, she also raised funds for one of his favorite charities, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy.
Though the gold medal winner declined, he did send her roses and a note saying, "Hi Danielle: I’m sorry I can’t make it to your prom. Your support for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy means a lot to me, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. Good luck in your meets and maybe I’ll see you at the next Olympic Games! ;) –Ryan."
It may be Ryan's hectic schedule that is preventing him from fulfilling the young girl's dream. He was recently announced to be filming a reality show for E! in addition to training for the 2016 Olympics.
