Patrick Dempsey: Goodbye “Grey’s Anatomy”

He’s been Dr. McDreamy for the past seven years, but Patrick Dempsey says he’s leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” after the upcoming Eighth Season.

During his recent interview with Italian Vanity Fair, Dempsey sounded rather nonchalant about his departure.

“I do not know what’s going to happen to the other characters, but for me it’s done. It’s bittersweet because it’s been a great part of my life, but I can’t see me doing it anymore.”

Patrick’s rep added, "He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds."

Meanwhile, creator Shonda Rimes sounded optimistic about the transition. "We're heading towards the future of the show and eventually, unless we are extremely lucky, everybody's going to go. A lot of shows don't make it because they don't know how to transition."
