Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson: Legal Update

In an interesting turn of events, Oksana Grigorieva may not be able to prosecute Mel Gibson for domestic violence.

According to TMZ reports, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is not only conducting a serious extortion investigation, but have "numerous emails, texts, documents and witness statements" that could lead to criminal charges.

If the D.A. does indeed file extortion charges against Oksana, sources familiar with the case say she may then be forced to take the Fifth because what she says could incriminate her.

Word has it, the D.A. considers these two investigations "connected." If the D.A. files extortion charges, sources say there's a good chance it could lead to a domestic violence prosecution.

But if the D.A. decided not to file an extortion case against Oksana to preserve a domestic violence case against Mel, he may have a chance of getting out of the prosecution.
