Box Office: "The Avengers" Soars to BIGGEST Weekend EVER!
Living up to the massive hype with beyond-impressive numbers, "The Avengers" is situated atop the May 4-6, 2012 box office with the best first weekend earnings ever!
The Joss Whedon directed superhero blockbuster boasting an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth blazed out of the gates with a whopping $80.5 million in ticket sales on Friday and $69.7 million on Saturday which sets the projected opening weekend at $200 million - the highest ever after beating out the previous $169 million record held by "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2".
Getting knocked into the runner-up position is last weekend's triumphant film "Think Like a Man," as the Steve Harvey book-based comedy starring Meagan Good and Gabrielle Union nabbed $2.6 million on Friday $3.3 million on Saturday with an anticipated weekend pull of $8.0 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are the Jennifer Lawrence starring blockbuster "The Hunger Games" ($5.7 million), followed by a fourth place tie between the Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling fronted drama "The Lucky One" and Peter Lord & Jeff Newitt's animated tale "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" ($5.4 million).
