"Treme" Actor Michael Showers Found Dead

In a tragic twist of fate, Michael Showers, best known for his work as Captain John Guidry on the HBO series "Treme," was found dead in the Mississippi River early Wednesday morning (August 24).

The 45-year-old actor's body was first discovered near the French Quarter in New Orleans before being recovered by the Harbor Police about 30 minutes later, according to The Times-Pincayune.

While an autopsy is yet to be performed, John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish coroner's office, estimated that his body had been floating in the waters for two days.

On top of his Emmy-nominated reoccurring role on "Treme," Showers also appeared on variety of other television shows, including "The Vampire Diaries," "The Tree of Life," "Traffic," and "I Love You Philip Morris."
