Maggie Gyllenhaal Talks Marriage, Nanny McPhee
Appearing on the cover of the August issue of Good Housekeeping, Maggie Gyllenhaal talks about her crazy life and upcoming project “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.”
The “Stranger than Fiction” babe sang the praises of her husband Peter Sarsgaard and their open lines of marital communication.
“The big thing is that we’re able to talk to each other, which I think is pretty remarkable, to shift things and change things when we need to, and we care enough about each other to try to do that. That’s an amazing thing about him. He’s better at that than I am.”
And when she broke down on the set of “Nanny McPhee,” Maggie received some amazing help from costar and friend Emma Thompson. “Emma gave me the best piece of advice…I had one day on the set when I was overwhelmed. I was a newlywed, I had a 2-year-old…I had quite a long scene with five children and animals, and I remember cracking a little bit. You’re not allowed to fall completely apart when you’re carrying a movie; you’re a professional – but I did one day, just a little bit. Nobody knew except for Emma, and she said, ‘Mags, you have got to allow yourself to drop the ball, because nobody can keep all those balls in the air.’”
