The Lion King 3D
Making for one of the tightest races in recent memory, a trifecta of films found themselves vying for the top spot at the box office over the weekend of September 30-October 2, 2011.
Emerging atop the pack was the Warner Bros. "Dolphin Tale," as the family film raked in $3.4 million on Friday and $6.5 million on Saturday en route to an estimated weekend take of $14.2 million.
Capitalizing on a late surge to retain its perch above the pack, "Lion King 3D" roared its way to a second straight top place finish at the box office over the weekend of September 23-25, 2011.
The Disney classic started out with $6 million on Friday while churning out an impressive $9.2 million Saturday en route to an expected $22.1 million weekend total.
Showing the strong continued interest in the classic family tale, "The Lion King 3D" is on track to triumph at the box office over the weekend of September 16-18, 2011.
The animal based Disney picture pulled in $8.825 million in ticket sales on opening day while garnering approximately $29.43 million on opening weekend.
