She was really counting on her role in “Liz and Dick” to propel her back to career greatness, but Lindsay Lohan may have hit another snag instead.
The Lifetime movie premiered last night (November 25) and LiLo even tried to drum up interest by inviting fans to a Twitter chat during the broadcast.
Lindsay tweeted, “Thankful 2 have played Liz Taylor in “LizandDick. Would love 2 chat w u about it on Twitter 11/25 9pm E during the movie.”
However, after the movie, critics and celebrities alike universally panned Lohan’s performance and the project overall.
Aimee Mann tweeted, “I get the feeling the phrase ‘It is what it is’ was said a lot in the editing room.” Michael Buckley echoed, “OMG She has an accent. She doesn't have an accent. OH. MY. GOD.”
Furthermore, Josh Groban joked, “OMG during half time I switched to 5 minutes of #LizAndDick and it's so awkwardly made, I feel embarrassed in my no-no place.”
Hollywood Reporter editor Tim Goodman lamented, “Lohan is woeful as Taylor from start to finish… [it was] an instant classic of unintentional hilarity.”
And Alessandra Stanley of the New York Times opined, “There are moments in ‘Liz & Dick’ when Lindsay Lohan looks a lot like Elizabeth Taylor. There are others in which she looks like Elizabeth Taylor doing a ‘Saturday Night Live’ impersonation of Lindsay Lohan.”
