Jesse Eisenberg Defends Facebook CEO

On the brink of its release this weekend, “The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg opened up about playing the role as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.

The young actor told MTV News, "When you spend six months, 14 hours a day doing the same thing, playing the same role, it's impossible to think of that role in the same way the audience might think of that role or the way the other characters might think of that character."

"You know, in the same way we can't think of ourselves in kind of an objective way, that's how actors have to think about the roles that they play.”

Continuing on, Eisengberg told, "I didn't think it was that difficult with this one though because he does things that are occasionally hurtful to other characters, but I think it's always coming from a real place. He prioritizes Facebook over his personal relationships. This is not something that I think is bad. His interest is elsewhere, so he severs these personal relationships he has in the movie in order to take Facebook in the direction that it needs to go. I think it's a completely defendable position."

“The Social Network” hits theaters this Friday (October 1).
