“The Day the Earth Stood Still” Premieres in Japan
With a great cast and a killer concept, “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is a fantastic remake of the original 1951 sc-fi classic. And earlier today cast members Keanu Reeves, Jaden Smith, and Jennifer Connelly were in Tokyo, Japan for the big premiere.
The “Matrix” stud donned a patchy beard and a dark suit as he addressed the audience at Roppongi Hills along with his “Labyrinth” costar and Will Smith’s son.
Hopefully, “The Day the Earth Stood Still” will fare as well in the Land of the Rising Sun as it has in America so far - it opened number one at the box office, and even has an IMAX version that contributed $3.7 million to the total $31 million in ticket sales so far.
Twentieth Century Fox’s Bruce Snyder told press, "We're very happy with the film's overall performance for the weekend and, with 19 of the top 20 engagements having IMAX screens, it’s clear that more moviegoers are taking advantage of The IMAX Experience to make the film an extra special event. We look forward to its continued success in both conventional and IMAX theatres throughout the holiday season."
