Jodie Foster’s Inspiring Golden Globes Speech
Last night (January 13) she received the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, and Jodie Foster took the opportunity to loosely discuss her position as a gay woman in Hollywood.
The “Silence of the Lambs” starlet declared, "I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I've never been able to air in public that I'm a little nervous about… I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age, in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met."
Jodie also acknowledged “my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life. Thank you, Cyd (Cydney Bernard). I am so proud of our modern family. Our amazing sons, Charlie and Kit, who are my reason to breathe and to evolve, my blood and soul."
Afterwards, a plethora of stars reacted to Foster’s speech. Kathy Griffin tweeted, "I'm a big #JodieFoster fan, especially 2nite. Her speech tells LGBT youth: America has evolved, b proud of who u are!"
Ryan Murphy added, "I love Jodie Foster so much,” and Rosie O’Donnell gushed, “Jodie Foster – rather amazing speech."
From the gents, Alan Cumming posted, "Aww Jodie Foster, I would like to be your friend,” while Ricky Martin declared, "[Jodie] Foster On your terms. It's your time! Not before nor after. It's when it feels right!"
Jesse Tyler Ferguson also chimed in, "Jodie Foster. You are perfection. I love you,” and Chelsea Clinton wrote,"Thank you #JodieFoster for sharing your grace & grit over 47 yrs, and most of all tonight. #AnExample #GoldenGlobes.”
