Going into the “Bachelorette” finale, Emily Maynard had a tough choice between 28-year-old Jef Holm, a bottled water CEO, and 30-year-old Arie Luyendyk, a race car driver.
And as soon as Ms. Maynard saw the way Holm and her 7-year-old daughter Ricki hit it off, Luyendyk’s chances immediately went out the window.
Emily told Chris Harrison, “As much as I love Arie, I’ve fallen in love with someone a little more,” during a confessional interview.
From there, Ms. Maynard opted to tell Arie he was out prior to the last day, explaining, “I don’t want you to think it’s because of anything you did or didn’t do. You are everything.”
But Luyendyk wasn’t having it- “I don’t know what you want. Thank you for sparing me the embarrassment tomorrow,” he declared as he stormed off.
When Jef found out he was the chosen one, he got down on one knee and told Emily, "What I'm about to ask you aren't just empty words [for] a few months, a few years, a few decades. It's a forever thing."
He then proceeded to propose to Ms. Maynard, who gladly answered, “Yes!”
