David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell Call it Quits

Failing to find lasting love, "American Idol" winner David Cook and former contestant Kimberly Caldwell have called an end to their romance.

"They didn't want to make a big deal about it," an insider tells of the breakup, which reportedly took place just before Christmas.

Explaining why the couple parted ways, a source tells Us magazine, "He has a lot of options and wants to explore them. He doesn’t want to be tied down."

As for the not-too-distant chatter of a nearing engagement and a ring being purchased, "That rumor was not true. The relationship just sort of dissolved."
