Only announced in September as the leading man cast to play Christian Grey in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s adaptation of E.L. James’ national bestseller, Charlie Hunnam dropped the role, reportedly due to schedule complications.
Universal Studios released a statement on today (October 11), saying, “The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
The search for the perfect “Fifty Shades of Grey” cast might just be called “Fifty Shades of Actors”—as the number of names bandied about for the roles keeps on growing.
The latest celebs being considered are Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam. Miss Johnson, who previously starred in the FOX-TV comedy “Ben & Kate,” is reportedly up for the lead role of Anastasia "Ana" Steele. Hunnam, of “Sons of Anarchy” fame, could become the elusive Christian Grey character.
