Tyson Beckford and Niki Taylor Talk Modeling
Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford were on hand at the NBC Experience store yesterday doing some promotion for their new show “Make Me A Supermodel.” And while it may seem like just another modeling competition, Beckford says it’s on a new level, pitting girls against guys.
The male model told press, “That’s what attracted me to the show. I was like, ‘OK. That’s cool. I get to represent for the guys.’ It also gives guys an opportunity because it’s rougher for us in this business, because it is a woman’s business and we’re definitely lucky to be even in the same business with women.”
Sweetheart Niki Taylor says she finds it difficult to critique the contestants, but she knows it’s better than letting them look bad. “I tell (the contestants) all the time, ‘Don’t be mad at me, but I’m always going to tell you the truth.’ So if someone’s not right, I’m going to tell them. . . . You have to have thick skin in this business. And I only tell you to help you. I’m not telling you to chop you down or to be mean or degrading. None of us are trying to do that. But reality of being a quote, unquote, supermodel is a big title and, you know, the whole world is looking for a flaw. So if I can spot the flaw before the world sees it and help you correct it, it’s only going to be better for you.”
And Tyson says that the opportunity this show presents to modeling hopefuls is invaluable. “They’re going to be trained. They’re going to be molded, and by the fashion industry’s most influential people. So if I were them, I would take their advice and do what they’re told.”
