Richard Hatch Gets Early Prison Release

Posted Thursday May 14, 2009 5:26 PM GMT

Former "Survivor" winner Richard Hatch has just been released from federal prison after spending four years there for tax evasion.

The Season 1 champ was convicted back in January of 2006 after failing to pay taxes of his $1 million prize money. He left a federal prison in West Virginia on Monday, being released early for good behavior.

The 48-year-old will lodge in a house in Pennsylvania until October 7, told Carla Wilson, the spokeswoman for Northeast Regional Office of the Bureau of Prisons.

Hatch has claimed that he is completely innocent of the crime and assumed that the show’s producers were going to handle his taxes and was misinformed about money matters.

After being sentenced, Richard remained upbeat about 51 months behind bars and shook hands with his lawyers. He also said goodbye to his family, yelling, “See you later, Mom.”
