Poker Draws Out the A-Listers
Poker has become a wildly popular phenomenon among celebrities in recent years, both in light-hearted TV shows like “The Celebrity Poker Showdown,” as well as in real tournaments such as the WSOP (World Series of Poker).
Hollywood actresses such as Jennifer Tilly and Shannon Elizabeth are taking poker quite seriously. Tilly has played on a professional level and lives together with famous pro Phil “Unabomber” Laak.
Meanwhile, Miss Elizabeth surprised everyone when she defeated several of the best players in the world in the National Heads-Up Championship. Both ladies are regulars in some of the biggest tournaments.
Even Paris and Nicky Hilton have tried their hands at poker, but only in invitational and charity events thus far. Who knows, maybe we'll see the Hilton sisters at the WSOP in Vegas this summer?
Representing the fellas, we have Tobey Maguire, who has played in the WSOP on several occasions, though his ‘Spidey’ senses haven’t earned him any big money yet.
A couple of comedians are involved in poker as well. Jason “George” Alexander recently signed a contract with the world’s largest poker site, PokerStars, and Ray Romano was sitting at the table when the most spectacular hand of the 2008 WSOP Main Event was played.
