No More Diddy for Sean "Diddy" Combs In The UK

In a recent court ruling, it was decided that Sean "Diddy" Combs will not be allowed to refer to himself onstage as "Diddy" during his April UK tour. Totally unexpected, this is regarded as one of the strictest rulings on copyright protection in recent years.

The lawsuit with UK musician Richard 'Diddy' Dearlove and P Diddy was over the rights to using the Diddy moniker. Combs reportedly was forced to pay damages of $19,500 and agreed to trade as 'P Diddy' in the UK in order to avoid any confusion with Dearlove - who has been trading under the name 'Diddy' since 1992.

One problem that was noted is that on his recent album Press Play there is a lyric on the track 'The Future' during which Combs refers to himself as "Diddy", thereby going against the ruling.

The rapper's lawyers have confirmed that Combs will omit the lyric when he performs alongside Snoop Dogg during his British tour in April.

In a temporary win for Sean "Diddy" Combs, Lord Justice David Kitchen's judgment stopped short of ordering the performer to stop using the hugely popular "Diddy" MySpace and YouTube Internet sites, where his pages attract millions of viewers worldwide.

This part of the case is to be decided in October, but it is hoped that a settlement can be reached prior to the scheduled hearing date.
