Mysterious Gossip Girl

The CW launched its new series Gossip Girl last week and based upon initial reviews, it has the potential for another winner. With a host of fresh new faces, supported by the creative genius that made the O.C. a household name and CW superstar Kristen Bell providing the voice over, Gossip Girl has all the makings for a strong multi-year series.

The first episode of the show lived up to its trailers, as viewers moved from one scenario to the next that featured “young royalty” moving through the NY social and educational sub cultures.

As with all pilots, a lot of information was crammed into the first episode in order to set the tone and define characters for future episodes. And while this fast pace made it feel like the show was whizzing past you, one can only hope that the director slows things down a little for future episodes.

In many ways, Gossip Girl follows the standard plot of once best friends suddenly finding reasons to hate each other and then dragging everyone else into their drama; however it does have one twist that spiced up the show. A central theme of the Gossip Girl show is that there is a mystery person running a gossip website that posts all of the “dirt” about other cast members, and after the first episode, viewers are left with several potential suspects.
