Katie Holmes: Beautiful in the Big Apple

Out for the first time since the death of her brother-in-law, Katie Holmes attended the Independent Feature Project 30th Year Celebration at the Cooper Square Hotel in New York City on Sunday (April 26).

Looking oh-so-elegant in an all black ensemble, the "Mad Money" beauty was the host for the evening's festivities.

According to the organization's Web site, IFP works "to produce programs that assist independent filmmakers in connecting with film industry professionals and ultimately, connecting to audiences."

The trip to New York City follows a stop in Katie's hometown of Toledo, Ohio, where she attended the funeral of her sister's husband, who passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 48.
