Britney Spears Custody Battle Gets Complicated

Posted Saturday December 1, 2007 4:22 PM GMT

As if it wasn’t complicated enough already, one of Britney Spears’ friends failed to appear for his deposition hearing, setting everything back another month.

The “Gimme More” singer’s close friend Sam Lufti was subpoenaed back on November 7th and ordered to give an account of her behavior. But as of yesterday (his scheduled deposition date) he was a no-show.

And apparently this kind of behavior is fairly consistent with Lufti. K-Fed’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, has had trouble pinning him down since August, and November’s subpoena serving was one of many attempts.

Sam appears to be a close friend of Brit’s, and he even stepped in on her behalf when the pregnancy rumors started flying. He texted Ryan Seacrest, "It's B.S. Don't know who made it up. J.R. doesn't even know what's up. It's fake. Completely fake. We just wrapped her video. Going home to sleep."

As far as the rumors that K-Fed is only doing this for the money, they’re false according to Kaplan. He told press, "Every two months, rumors have been raised in the media that Mr. Federline's lawyers are about to go into court to get more money for child support. Persistent questions are again being raised now in the press about the timing of when that will happen.”

He continued, "As I've said, I know where to find the courthouse and what to do when I get there. If Mr. Federline had wanted to increase child support, it would be very easy to achieve and would have been requested long before now. There has not been and is not now a request before the court for a modification of child support. Mr. Federline's purpose in bringing this action continues to be one that is based upon the best interest of the children as his highest priority."
