Bernie Mac Passes Away
In a shocking and tragic turn of events, Bernie Mac died this morning (August 9th) in the midst of his recent hospitalization. He was 50 years old.
His publicist Danica Smith announced, "Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital."
At this point there are no other details available regarding this saddening loss. However, it is clear that Mac’s passing will have a tremendous effect on his Hollywood peers, as well as his fans and admirers.
Bernie suffered from sarcoidosis, described as an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs. However, his condition has been in remission since 2005.
The pneumonia Mac was suffering from at the time of his death was not thought to have been related to his sarcoidosis.
His death comes on the heels of a statement Bernie made back in 2007, declaring his desire to retire soon. "I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit. I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977."
