Hoping to be back on the music scene soon, Alexa Ray Joel gained support at her father’s Oyster Bay, L.I., home on Monday, after canceling two performances after a suicide fright.
The daughter of Billy Joel was reported as taking a handful of homeopathic pain pills Saturday and then called 911 admitting to an overdose and having problems breathing. "Alexa is feeling much better. She is with her family and looking forward to getting back on track," said her spokeswoman, Claire Mercuri.
"I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support," told the 23 year-old, who was to perform with Christie Brinkley at the New York Stock Exchange and J & R Music World Thursday.
One friend says she was trying to get attention from ex-boyfriend, Jimmy Riot. Gordon Grody, former vocal coach said the two fell in love after the 38 year old was the bass player in her first band. "He was her first big love of her life and it was a very passionate, romantic relationship. [They were] living the rock 'n' roll dream without parental supervision or restrictions."
The relationship didn’t last long and split. "I don't think she ever really got over it, but I certainly don't think she would have intentionally tried to kill herself over it.”
