Casey Anthony Trial: Lack of Evidence Led to Acquittal

Posted Wednesday July 6, 2011 2:13 PM GMT

In the aftermath of the Casey Anthony murder trial, everyone is trying to figure out why things played out as they did.

And according to Florida State Attorney Jeff Ashton, Anthony’s “not guilty” status was the result of a lack of reliable evidence.

Ashton explained, “It all came down to the evidence. I think ultimately it all came down to- at least from what the one alternate said- it came down to the cause of death.”

Alternate juror Russell Huekler shared, "The prosecution failed to prove their case and there was reasonable doubt. Again, they didn't show us how Caylee died. They didn't show us a motive. I'm sorry people feel that way. ... These were 17 total jurors. They really listened to this case and kept an open mind."
