Simon Phillip Cowell is the annoying judge on American Idol that likes to make negative comments about contestants. Simon Cowell was dumped by his long term girlfriend Terri Seymour and recently announced his engagement to Mezhgan Hussainy.
With only one week left until their primetime debt, the stars of the U.S. version of "The X Factor" stepped out for a red carpet premiere event in Hollywood, California on Wednesday night (September 12).
Opening up about his latest FOX singing competition, his relationship with fellow judge Paula Abdul and the side of him viewers rarely get to see, Simon Cowell chatted with Redbook magazine for their October issue - which hits newsstands on September 13.
Explaining the difference between "X Factor" and other reality talent shows, the famed producer told, "The contestants are all ages—from 12 to 80—and have fascinating backstories. One woman in her mid-40s had gotten out of a horribly abusive marriage. When she sang, she was amazing. We saw the 5,000 people in the audience all get on their feet. That’s more powerful than a 17-year-old who comes in and says, 'I want to be a star.' It’s like with Susan Boyle, where I got it completely wrong. I’d written her off before she started singing and got a sharp wake-up call in front of millions."
Hoping to find as much success in the States as is the case in the UK, "The X Factor" has offered up it's very first promo for the show's U.S. version.
The clip debuted on Tuesday night (July 12) during the MLB All-Star game on FOX, with Simon Cowell poking fun at himself as he doles out compliments and even offers a standing ovation after a contestant's rendition of "Tomorrow" from Annie.
Word of her participation in the show has been circulating for some time, but now sources are saying Mariah Carey's role on the U.S. version of "X Factor" could last all season long.
As an insider reported to Entertainment Weekly, “Mariah and Simon are great friends, and now [that] she has had her babies, it’s very possible that she will be involved [in] some way in the later stages of the show. She has always said she wanted to work with the show, so it’s something they will certainly be discussing ideas for soon.”
